The mission of Ethics San Mateo is to lead and support efforts by the residents of San Mateo to ensure our city is served according to the highest level of ethical standards and behavior.

We do not oppose or support any specific agenda, position, or issue. We are focused on any unethical conduct in HOW and WHAT influences are brought to bear on city officials, and any actions our elected and appointed public servants take in violation of standards of ethical conduct.

We are faced with a daunting task. There is an established chain of influence by special interest groups who are well-funded, well-organized, trained and led by professionals. Some are part of state and national organizations. There is a lot of money to be made by the backers of some of these groups if their agendas can be pushed through. Some of these groups use extremely effective tactics, and they don’t care about ethical conduct.

To make ourselves heard we need to be organized, coordinated, and vocal. Our membership insists that those who are elected, appointed, and hired to serve the residents of San Mateo do so in compliance with the highest of ethical standards.
